Response to Covid-19
The Department of Education has developed resources for all students to access as a result of the impact of Covid-19 on the teaching and learning at CBSS. These resources can be accessed by clicking on this link.
At CBSS, we aim for all our students to be literate and numerate. As a result, we have a clear focus on English and
Mathematics but we also promote learning in all eight Learning Areas of the Australian Curriculum and take
opportunities to build student skills and understanding across the breadth of the curriculum.
Our school uses the research-based LEM program from Prep to Year 6 to assist in literacy learning, especially in
phonics and spelling.
We also aim for students to be autonomous, life-long learners and support this by using a variety of teaching
practices that best suit our student base including
• Age-Appropriate Pedagogies
• Inquiry learning
• Explicit teaching
• Excursions
• Clubs
• Using ICTs across the scope of the curriculum
From Prep through to Year 6, students have the opportunity to use a variety of engaging ICTs including
• Bee-bots & robotics
• iPads
• Computers
ICTs are used as a teaching and learning tool, a chance for students to engage in the curriculum in a different way
and to prepare students for the ever-changing workplace. Embedding ICTs is a General Capability of the Australian
Curriculum and something reflected in each classroom practice.
