Behaviour Support

Our positive behaviour for learning program provides a specific focus on developing and maintaining a safe and supportive school environment for all students. This program is directly linked to the school’s behaviour management program with the school’s expectations directly linked to our school values. Each week aspects of the school values are explicitly taught in all classrooms and reinforced at fortnightly parade celebrations. In conjunction with explicit teaching of behavioural expectations students explore key social/emotional concepts of: positive interactions, inclusion, positive friendships and ‘above the line’ decision making through children’s literature. Our goal is to provide students with the skills and understanding required to collectively contribute to a positive and proactive school community. Our students strive to become Clontarf Beach STARS: Safe, Tolerant, Respectful and Supportive.

In line with Education Queensland’s Code of School Behaviour, the school is guided by the Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students (PDF,2244KB). At Clontarf Beach, mutual respect is the premise upon which relationships are based. Through their behaviour students are assigned a level of behaviour support with the majority of students meeting either ‘Merit’, ‘Responsible’ or ‘Monitored’ expectations. Only a few students require a higher level of support and fall into the ‘Targeted’ or ‘Intensive’ support categories. The school implements individual plans and strategies for these students to ensure they can access an education without impinging on the rights of others.

At Clontarf Beach State School acknowledge the great choices of the majority of our students and reward positive behaviour through our whole school Reach for the Stars rewards program and end of term behaviour celebration. We also implement proactive programs such as Kids Matters and strategies such as The Clontarf Beach High Five strategy to empower our students with skills for effective problem solving in the classroom and at play.
